5 Axis Indexed Machining provides machining at any angle with all 2.5D and 3D machining strategies. Interactive part angle setting are based on the 3D model which excludes errors, and simplifies and accelerates the CNC production engineer’s work.

The SprutCAM system offers the convenience of generating the control programs for 4 (3+1) and 5 (3+2) – axis machining. In the index machining mode, you can use all 2, 2.5 and 3D operations and change the direction of the rotation axes between them. As a result, the control program development in 4-axis and 5-axis machining centers are significantly simplified. 

To create the index operation, it is necessary to define the direction of the rotation axes or the local coordinate system of the operation. You can change the position of the part and the tool between operations. This is easily performed using the interactive model. All you need to do is point out the surface area using the tool it should be perpendicular to. SprutCAM will automatically calculate the rotation angles and the movement of the executive devices and will generate the control program.

Most of the modern numerical control columns require compulsory use of the local coordinate systems for index multiaxis machining. For this purpose SprutCAM may use the Local CS – Auto function, which automatically rotates the coordinate system so that Z axis is always directed toward the tool axis. As a result of multiaxis machining in the index mode, you have the opportunity to use the cycles defined in the numerical control column.
